To increase the understanding and use of quality throughout the United States, ASQ is collaborating with the Alliance for Performance Excellence (http://www.baldrigepe.org/alliance/).

The Alliance advances quality by supporting state and local quality award programs based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria. This collaboration provides ASQ members with another network of leaders interested in quality and performance excellence.

The Quality Information Center (QIC), ASQ’s research library, is staffed with professional information specialists who provide access to quality-related resources, the Quality InfoSearch database, customized research, and more. Members have access to a wealth of knowledge and information available through the QIC.

The research is conducted by research experts in ASQ’s ever-expanding library of relevant, credible quality resources, including ASQ-published journals, conference proceedings, and Quality Press publications.

All ASQ Full and Associate members receive free internal information searches, specially reduced member rates for article purchases, and special rates for external searches should they be necessary.

Visit the QIC page at http://asq.org/membership/benefits/qic.html.

As we continue on it the new year, I would like to bring you up-to-date on a few things.

Quality Excellence

Each year, ASQ recognizes outstanding section for their quality performance for the previous year.  A section can receive GOLD, SILVER, or BRONZE.  I am proud to announce that ASQ Baltimore (Section 502) has received the GOLD award.  We would not have received this award without your assistance.

ASQ Survey

Each year, ASQ sends out a survey on how the Sections are doing.  When you receive your survey notice, please take the time to response.  Also, if you have any ideas how to improve the section or have any positive or negative comments, please feel free to email me at .

Section Dinner Meetings

You have requested it and we have listened.  As a result of the Location contest, we held January’s Dinner meetings at Loyola College (Timonium Campus) [thanks to Lauren Fagan] and March’s meeting at Richlin Ballroom (Edgewood) [thanks to Melody Zacharko].  Reservations are being accepted for March’s Dinner meeting.

Section Officers

As we start the New Year, I am also starting my last six months as Section Chair.  By ASQ rules, Chairs and Treasurers can only serve 2 consecutive years in the corresponding office.  Last year, we changed Treasurers.  This year will be Chairs.  If you are interested in joining the Board, running for an office or have any questions, please contact me or any of the other Board members.

Thank you for your participation in the section.  As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me ().

Have a great year – jr
