- Josef Wonsever
Josef: “I’ve been a member of the ASQ Baltimore Section since 2007 and have been an Advisor to the Board for most of that time. I have been with NASA for 42 years, mostly at Goddard Space Flight Center but including 10 years at NASA Headquarters.
I started in Quality Engineering and most of my career has been in Safety and Mission Assurance. I’ve worked on flight projects involving Earth Science, Astronomy, Space Physics, Planetary, Weather and Communications satellites. I led Goddard’s Systems Review Office for about 10 years and personally chaired several hundred design reviews, including reviews not only of Goddard’s spacecraft, but also some of those for other NASA Centers and our international partners. Presently I am the Chief for Technical Assessments within the Goddard Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate, and I am also the Program Manager for the Goddard Technical Standards Program and the Goddard lead for orbital debris issues.
I have a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York (now NYU’s School of Engineering) and an MS in Engineering Administration from George Washington University. While in school I held a number of offices in several technical societies including being President and Treasurer of our AIAA Chapter. I also was involved with and held various offices in publications, student government, student/faculty committees and assorted clubs.
I am presently a member of the Science Advisory Board for the Anne Arundel County Public School system, and I very much enjoy judging science fairs. I am also a member of several technical societies (AIAA, ASME, SAE and of course ASQ). I became a licensed Private Pilot at age 17 and although I haven’t been actively flying for a while, I plan to resume that activity in the near future. I’ve been married for 25 years and have two (overachieving) kids.”
