Website: Digest option

January 8th, 2011
Comments Off

The JobSeekers program is experimenting with using a daily digest option for those subscribers who are not using Yahoo Groups.  Unfortunately, the software that manages the sending of emails does not implement the digest feature well.  It is all or nothing, not subscriber-configurable, and seems to not send to each subscriber (this does not seem to be a problem with individual emails).

For those of you monitoring the JobSeekers postings, please check the website for recent postings to ensure that you have not missed anything (Twitter postings have not been affected).

ASQ JobSeekers Status – Initial Maintenance Complete

December 17th, 2010
Comments Off

The primary work on the ASQ Baltimore website and ASQ JobSeekers website has been completed.

Thank you for your patience.

The new website should be available as the new configuration propagates across the Internet and by this weekend, the new site should be seen by everyone.

There are a number of maintenance issues that will be worked on over the next few weeks, but there should be no downtime on the system and the email accounts that the Section uses are now active/live. Content for the meetings and other pages will be updated over the net few weeks.

Improved website speed, better email management, and potentially new features will be the results of these changes, and hopefully, there will be updates on the website to note these for your information.  The temporary email address that was set up for the conversion will be deleted.

Thank you for your patience.

December 11th, 2010
Comments Off

Year-end maintenance has begun.  As long as this message is at the top of the front of the the website, the website will be undergoing testing, maintenance and host changing.

Ultimately, the website will be better off after the work that is now on-going.  You may not see any immediate physical changes, but there will be significant speed and reliability improvements, and a number of new software features that will be available to the Section for use by and for its members.

Any questions specifically for the website development may be emailed to the temporary email address:  ASQwebtransfer2010@finegan.info.  Please do not email any non-website questions, they will be deleted without response.

Email and website access may be temporarily spotty during the maintenance window, so if you do not get any notices or replies over the next few weeks, please try again after the new website notice come up.

Thank you for your patience.

Comments Off

To ASQ Baltimore Members, Outreach members and friends,

The ASQ Website will be undergoing maintenance and some minor construction beginning Dec 10, 2010 (after the December Dinner Meeting).

It is hoped that any downtime experienced will be short and not too inconvenient.

Most of the changes will be “invisible” to the membership, but improved website speed, better email management, and potentially new features will be the results.

Thank you for your patience.  Note that any emails sent to any asqbaltimore.org may not be seen or responded to during the maintenance window.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us (or use the contact form) prior to or after the maintenance window.

A notice will go out when the website maintenance is complete.

Website: Interested in contributing ?

May 3rd, 2010

There are many ways to contribute to the JobSeekers program.

The initial / original way is to contribute Job Openings, as that always has been part of the original function of the JobSeekers program.

There are many other ways to contribute, but why should you? If you have been reading the articles on the website or performing your own research (probably very important in today’s economy), then you already know the answer.

Unfortunately, the hosting company was having issues last night after 5:30pm.  The issues were not resolved until this 7:20am morning.

If you were trying to connect to the ASQ Baltimore or ASQ JobSeekers website last night, please try again.

This was affecting both the ASQ Baltimore website and the ASQ Baltimore JobSeekers website.  We are working on resolving the various issues that we have been experiencing over the past year.

Thank you.

Poll: JobSeeker Poll

February 18th, 2010

Yes, unfortunately, this is the second poll this week (for ASQ Baltimore Section members), but the ASQ Baltimore Section would like your feedback on our Career Management program (whether you participate or not). This is not the National survey referred to by the Message from the ASQ 0502 Chair earlier this week.

The JobSeekers poll is online at http://www.asqbaltimore.org/jobseekers/poll-feb-2010/

The poll should take 5-7 minutes and asks you questions about your usage of the JobSeekers program, and requests your feedback. Please feel free to add as much commentary as you wish. You are able to perform this poll anonymously through the website if you wish, although we prefer you receive your email so that we may contact you if we have questions (use if you wish to be anonymous).

If you have any questions regarding the poll, please contact .

If you have received this poll request more than once, we apologize. Please do not fill in or submit more than one poll.

This poll will close on February 26, 2010.

Thank you

Website: Subscriptions Now Available

November 13th, 2009

New Subscription model is now available.

If you do not wish to figure how to use/integrate the RSS feeds into your daily lives, you can now subscribe to the JobSeekers website without having to sign up to or through Yahoo Groups. JobSeekers now has its own subscription management system.

If you wish to sign up for receiving emails whenever there are new postings on the JobSeekers website, please subscribe.  The subscription form is located at the bottom of the right sidebar.

Current Yahoo Groups users will no longer require Yahoo Groups to receive notifications, but can continue using Yahoo Groups if they would like.  New subscribers can use the website to subscribe.  Yahoo Groups subscribers can unsubscribe from Yahoo Groups and re-subscribe through the JobSeekers website, if they wish.  There is no reason to at this time.

At the moment, the only option for receiving emails from the JobSeekers website is to receive one email for every item posted on the site. This should not be a major impact as 85% of the original JobSeekers received them in this format. The Yahoo group: ASQBaltJobSeekers will still continue to receive the email notices as before (that email is subscribed, just like everyone else).

If you have any questions, please contact or use the contact form on this website.

Holiday – Labor Day

September 4th, 2009

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 7 in 2009).

The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City. In the aftermath of the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the US military and US Marshals during the 1894 Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with Labor as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike. Cleveland was also concerned that aligning a US labor holiday with existing international May Day celebrations would stir up negative emotions. All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations,” followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civil significance of the holiday.

Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. The holiday is often regarded as a day of rest and parades. Speeches or political demonstrations are more low-key than May 1 Labour Day celebrations in most countries, although events held by labor organizations often feature political themes and appearances by candidates for office, especially in election years. Forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events. Families with school-age children take it as the last chance to travel before the end of summer recess.

Enjoy your holiday.

Website Feature: Articles

Website Feature:  Articles

This new Jobseekers program does more than provide submitted job postings.  While I have been searching around on the web, and come across Quality related jobs, I will post these as well, even if they were not submitted (some of you will have noted the late night “burst” of job emails every once in a while).  Note, 90% of the jobs posted in Jobseekers for the past 3 years are found jobs, not submitted.

But a new feature is the articles on a wide variety of Job Search topics.  I have come across a number of useful articles online, in particular on other Job-related blogs, and since this is a blog as well, I decided to start sending out to my viewers articles that are relevant.  Note that the “tags” for the articles are the “type” of articles that is being posted, so if you wish to see all of the posting on a particular topic, click the tag at the bottom of the posting, or in the tag cloud to the right of the screen.  It is like a topical search, returning only those articles with that topic.

Note that these articles are useful for even non-Quality-related jobs, so feel free to send people you know who may be looking for a job links to this site.  It might help some one.  I will keep doing this for as long as I feel I am helping someone out there.
