Site Development
Recent Updates (2009-10-31)
Move the “sticky” first posting to the sidebar to welcome new readers and allow them to click on the earliest post to explain the JobSeekers program.
Changed the title of the JobSeekers program from “A Service provided by ASQ 0502 Baltimore” to “A Career Program servicing the ASQ 0502 Baltimore community” to better reflect what the program does/has turned into.
Recent Updates (2009-10-10)
Update the current Job Market news and current events within the career management and job searching fields to be a separate category and move it out of the “articles” category.
Recent Updates (2009-09-17)
Fixed the error page for when people go to the old links. According to the the statistics for the web site, there are still people who are clicking on the old links or trying to get the old JobSeekers Information Packet.
Recent Updates (2009-09-11)
The Calendar of Events page was updated to provide a list of the next 3 months of meetings automatically generated under the monthly view (that way, either view can be used).
Note that the strange navigation problem with the site directories (I believe) have been solved. The plugins are now working and I should be able to set the site to be reviewed by Search Engines and not be penalized for duplicate content.
Recent Updates (2009-09-02)
Feeds are now working. Minor glitch with a plug-in upgrade.
Add statistics plugin to help track usage and product reports on the website usage (ABIP & JOBS)
Research into cache for speeding up the website (current testing is going on during the night, when usage is light, usage of the site during the day is much slower – currently about 6 times slower)
Recent Updates (2009-08-31)
Screwed up the links database, Eric F has updated the database, so now it should be up-to-date.
Update the Links databases with multiple new links/data/companies.
Recent Updates (2009-08-29)
Update the site for publishing.
Site is now going live.
Recent Updates (2009-08-22)
Links: Links have been added to the Links database. Links should now be “click-able”. If you come across any “lists of links” that are not clickable, please email
Format: Notes, tips are added to the system to allow a visual cue for important information.
Recent Updates (2009-08-20)
Links: Links have begun being added to the Links database.
Subscriptions: The ability to manage subscriptions has been performed. Subscriptions can be added via the front page or by the Administrator of the web-site. This feature must be tested at least the workflow portion before rolled completely out.
FAQ page: Links to FAQs updated and the formatting for the FAQs is updated. Minor updates to the FAQ and the answers to be updated to match the new Jobseekers web page.
PDF: Functionality is temporarily disabled
Recent Updates (2009-08-17)
Security: Security features have been updated. One last feature has been addressed. Database security has been updated. The new ASQ Baltimore Information Portal will now be able to be adapted with the new security features.
Recent Updates (2009-08-16)
Feature: Contact Us page now has a email-able form that users can fill out. Please test. Use the word “test” in the name or message if you do not want me to respond to you. There is a simple math test to prevent computer-automated responses. This may be replaced by a different SPAM catching technology, but should cut down on the email I get as SPAM (approximately 30 SPAM mails for each real email).
Links to other webpages
Note that all links on this site are static (not click-able).
If you wish to use them, please cut/paste into your web browser.
The Jobseekers Chair is going through the entire website to update the links into a better system to display the links on the various pages throughout the website. This involves entering the links into a database to allow easier display and management of links. This will take a little time.
Announcements will be posted on the Jobseekers website once done.
Formatting Issues
The website has been created by dumping the existing text from the existing site and the Jobseekers Information Packet.
The Jobseekers chair will be going through the website to adjust the formatting of of the pages. At this time, new functionality and confirming the latest jobs / calendar are up-to-date.
Please feel free to sent suggestions/updates/corrections to .
Recent Updates (2009-08-15)
Added a “Site Development” page to the Jobseekers site so that testers and interested parties can track the development of the site. Eventually, this will be incorporated into a History page.
Upgraded the underlying system to WordPress 2.8.4 – latest version, security updates.
Feature added: Displaying email addresses as graphics. If you notice anywhere an email address is exposed or should be, then email < – - All emails should look like this now.
Feature: PDF version. Clicking this link at the bottom of posts/pages will pull up a PDF of the content. Supposedly, this can be formatted differently and I will work on that.
Program Feature: Links of related / interesting blogs will be added to the website now as they are found/recieved — new feature of the Jobseekers program.
Security: Security features (most) have been updated. One particular feature is still a problem, and ejf hopes to have it resolved prior to rolling out the ASQ Baltimore Info Portal.
Reservations Form: Wow, currently the system to set this up is very advanced. This will take me some time. When the Section Board wishes to set up the reservations, let ejf know. I will come up with something.
Calendar of Events. This page is now fully functional (as I have set it up). Please test this well. Hit the pages, click links, comment/critique. Unless issues are found, this is the way is will be set up. If wanted by the board, the Calendar of Events can be set up this way on the ASQ 0502 website, for only ASSQ local events, or for all WQM events, Section board can decide.
Widgets – The sidebar on the right-hand side will fill out better as more posts/pages are added to the site. As more items are items, these can be adjusted better. No point in spending a lot of time doing this until more posts/pages are added and more users are viewing the site.
Site Backups: Backups are now automatic and being sent to . Instructions for restoring the backups under WordPress 2.8.4 will need to be written out – not done yet.
