Quality Systems Engineer (Ciena; Linthicum, MD)

Work cross-functionally to ensure compliance to TL/ISO 9000, ISO 14001 and other national and international standards, as well as the Corporate Quality Management System. Conduct internal audits per master Internal Audit Schedule. Work cross functionally to establish and maintain Ciena’s Integrated Management Systems. Provide input and support to cross-functional organizations to implement, streamline and improve Ciena’s processes, and to drive down costs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•    Work cross-functionally to ensure the effective implementation of processes in support of Ciena’s Integrated Management Systems (i.e. TL/ISO 9000, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, etc).
•    Perform internal audits per the master internal audit schedule, and work cross-functionally to ensure continued compliance to applicable standards, regulations, and directives.
•    Work cross-functionally to identify, monitor and ensure the maintenance of key process indicators, including those required by applicable standards, regulations, and directives.
•    Work cross-functionally in the creation, improvement, communication, and maintenance of processes, as needed.
•    Collect and analyze data and use the results, as needed, to facilitate and drive improvement.
•    Work cross-functionally in the creation, improvement, communication, and maintenance of business processes, including appropriate documentation, records and reports.
•    Other duties and responsibilities may include:
•    Monitor and follow up on corrective and preventive action activities.
•    Support the equipment calibration program
•    Support the process of maintaining process documentation
•    Audit Safety / Environmental activities for compliance with local regulations and standards.
•    Perform periodic Hazard Assessments
•    Work with area management to follow up on accident investigations to determine root cause, and to facilitate corrective action.

Education / Experience
•    BS in Engineering (IE preferred), or other related field
•    Three to five years of Quality Systems, process improvement and/or process development experience
•    Prior auditing experience (Preferably TL/ISO 9000, ISO 14001, and/or OHSAS 18001)
•    Prior experience in the telecom / optical networking industry desired, but not required.
•    Six Sigma experience desired, but not required.
