Frequently Asked Question: Older Job Positions

October 15th, 2015

Please note that if you review this website, you will notice that the website is set up like a blog, where newer postings are at the top, and the older, earlier postings are moved down the webpage.  Additionally, you will have noted that the postings don’t get removed when the job is no longer available.

Unless the Position submitter notifies ASQ Baltimore that the position is filled, or that they wish to remove the posting, the posting will remain up.

Even when the position is filled, the notice will remain up as an archive of the job posting.

Items of note:

  • Most recruiters / job posters do not follow up with the JobSeekers program when the position is filled.
  • Job advertisements usually provide a link to the job, and if the link is no longer live, then it is reasonable to believe that the job is no longer available.
  • Job seekers can use the website to see if other positions are available.  Particularly larger companies often have constant turnover of job positions, and the company’s websites can be used to find other positions,
  • Leaving the posting allows people to determine what types of jobs have been available in the past, and what companies have hired Quality personnel in the past.  Job seekers have used this information to look up other positions at these companies that might not have been added to the ASQ Jobseekers website.
  • Additionally, if the position is old, the contact information might still be good, and job seekers have used this information to reach out to a company and say “I noticed that you hired a quality professional in the past, does your company have any further positions available”.  This information can be part of your job search strategy planning.
  • At this time, the volunteer effort on this website is better spent adding the positions, and possibly looking for other quality jobs available in the area, instead of marking up older positions.  This can be revisited in the future, but most people understand the scenario once explained.

A recent example is the following posting:

Thank you for your understanding.  If you have any further questions, please email jobseekers@asqbaltimore.org.
